All OBDLink® adapters are guaranteed to work with our free software applications: OBDLink® app (for Android and iOS) and OBDwiz (for Windows), as shown in the table below. For complete details, see Which OBDLink® adapter is right for me?

OBDLink adapters also work with popular third-party apps including BimmerCode, FORScan, Torque, and many others. 

Be aware that other OBD apps may not support all of the OBDLink adapter models.

Our support team can’t answer detailed questions about non-OBDLink apps. However, we have helped users who have experienced issues after using our OBDLink app and other apps. This article describes some steps to try if you have similar issues. 

Unable to connect

You may have issues connecting if another OBD app is running, because the OBDLink adapter can only connect to one app at a time. You can’t run the OBDLink or OBDwiz app and another third-party OBD app (such as FORScan or AlfaOBD) at the same time.

In this case, close both apps, open the app you want to run, and try to connect again. 

No adapter found 

Some FORScan users have reported no adapter found errors with their wired OBDLink EX or SX adapters.

Try the steps below: 

1. In FORScan, view the Connection tab, in the COM settings section and confirm these settings:
   1. Baud rate is set to 115.2 Kbps.
   2. Auto-increase box is checked. 
2. If that doesn’t solve the issue, do a factory reset on your adapter by following the steps below:
   1. Unplug your OBDLink adapter from your vehicle and your Windows PC.
      Plug it back into your Windows PC only.
   2. Download and run the OBDLink USB Factory Reset tool (EXE).
      The tool scans for all OBDLink EX and SX adapters and performs a factory reset.
   3. While this tool is running, be sure to note the behavior of the LED.
      The LED rapidly blinks red off and on several times and then goes back to steady yellow.
3. Connect your OBDLink adapter to your vehicle. The LED should be steady green.
4. (Optional) Use the OBDwiz software to connect the OBDLink adapter to your Windows PC.
   Close OBDwiz before opening FORScan or any other OBD app.
5. In FORScan, be sure to check the COM settings in Step 1 above.

When using the FORScan app, you may see a message asking you to enable Auto-increase. We recommend you select Yes.

If these steps don’t work, confirm that your OBDLink adapter has the latest firmware by following the steps in this article: Update OBDLink Adapter Firmware in the section Update firmware with a Windows PC.

Invalid baud rate

Some users have reported issues using any OBD app with their wired OBDLink EX or SX adapters. 

You may see this error message: Error connecting: Error setting baud rate (FT_INVALID_BAUD_RATE)

Try the steps below: 

1. Do a factory reset on your adapter by following the steps below:
   1. Unplug your OBDLink adapter from your vehicle and your Windows PC.
      Plug it back into your Windows PC only.
   2. Download and run the OBDLink USB Factory Reset tool (EXE).
      The tool scans for all OBDLink EX and SX adapters and performs a factory reset.
   3. While this tool is running, be sure to note the behavior of the LED.
      The LED rapidly blinks red off and on several times and then goes back to steady yellow.
2. Connect your OBDLink adapter to your vehicle. The LED should be steady green.
3. (Optional) Use the OBDwiz software to connect the OBDLink adapter to your Windows PC.
